Alcaraz Spotted in Wrist Cast at Laureus — French Open Defence in Serious Doubt

Just days after winning Sportsman of the Year at the Laureus Awards, Carlos Alcaraz showed up to collect it in a cast.
The world No. 1 suffered a right wrist injury during his opening match at the Barcelona Open on April 14 and hasn’t played since. The cast he was pictured wearing — a rigid splint typically used for fractures or severe ligament damage — set alarm bells ringing across the tennis world.
Madrid Open director Feliciano Lopez didn’t sugarcoat it, calling Rome “almost impossible” and flagging Roland Garros as a serious concern. Alcaraz himself acknowledged the weight of the decision. “Pushing myself for Roland Garros could seriously affect me in future tournaments,” he said. “I would rather return later and fully fit.”
Tests in the coming days will decide everything. The defending French Open champion may not be there to defend.
