Andy Donaldson Swims 55km Through Crocodile River in 11 Hours

Five thousand five hundred crocodiles. Thirty-four miles. Eleven hours and fifty-one minutes.

Scottish-Australian swimmer Andy Donaldson, 35, completed the Dam to Dam Challenge on the Ord River in East Kimberley, Western Australia on Tuesday — setting a new record and becoming the first male to finish the feat. He stepped into the water at 5:38am and crossed the line at 5:29pm. Temperatures hit above 34°C.

The only other person to complete the swim was Simone Blaser, who did it in 16 hours 13 minutes in 2024. Donaldson cut more than four hours off that mark.

“I still have all my limbs,” he said after finishing.

A crocodile was spotted at the start line before he set off. He swam anyway.
