Badosa, Williams headline Miami Open day two matches

Paula Badosa and Venus Williams lead the first-round action on March 19 at the Miami Open, where early WTA matches continue in Florida as players battle for a place in the second round.

Badosa faces Germany’s Eva Lys in one of the standout ties, aiming to build momentum after an inconsistent start to the season. Williams, returning to the tour, draws attention as she looks to extend her campaign against younger opposition. Several lower-ranked players are also in action, hoping to upset seeded names in the opening stage.

“It’s always special to play here, I feel ready,” Badosa said ahead of her match. Williams added: “I still believe I can compete at this level.”

Lys warned she is prepared for the challenge, saying: “I have nothing to lose, I’ll go for it.” The Miami Open marks a key early-season event, with players seeking form ahead of the clay swing.
