Boyer Loses It at Francavilla Challenger, Smashes Chair and Costs Himself the Match

Tristan Boyer didn’t just lose a match. He handed it over.

The American was serving at 5-5 in the second set against Italy’s Daniele Rapagnetta at the Francavilla Challenger qualifier. One game penalty and it was over — because that penalty handed serve directly to Rapagnetta at 6-5, and the match ended right there.

The collapse was spectacular. After losing his serve at 5-5, Boyer smashed his racket repeatedly. Warning first. Then came the game penalty that ended everything. He went at the umpire immediately.

“You’re gonna give me something that never even happened?” he said. Then: “That’s un-****ng believable to me.” Then he hit the umpire’s chair with his racket and shouted “Go f*** yourself” as he walked off.

Rapagnetta advances. Boyer goes home early and likely faces a fine.

Sometimes the opponent doesn’t beat you. You do it yourself.
