Carolina Marin Retires at 32, Ending Badminton’s Greatest Non-Asian Career

Spain’s Carolina Marin announced her retirement on Thursday, citing a persistent knee injury that ended a career spanning an Olympic gold and three World Championship titles.
In a video titled “My journey ends here,” she confirmed she will miss next month’s European Championships in her hometown Huelva, saying: “I don’t want to put my body at risk for that.”
For Indian fans, the name means one thing — the woman who beat PV Sindhu in the Rio 2016 final to become the only non-Asian woman to win Olympic badminton gold.
She was the first woman to win three World titles (2014, 2015, 2018), held the world No. 1 ranking for a record 66 weeks, and won seven European crowns.
