CBS Sports mourns Bryce Adair, 31, killed after Memorial Tournament crash

Bryce Adair, a 31-year-old CBS Sports production assistant, died Saturday after sustaining injuries in a single-car accident on Wednesday night during the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. Lead broadcaster Jim Nantz paused the live telecast to announce the death, visibly struggling to compose himself as he addressed viewers.

“Be patient with us for a minute here,” Nantz said on air. “A huge loss earlier today within our CBS Sports family. Trust me when I tell you that in over 40 years, I have never seen our crew of 250 people come into a broadcast like this one carrying as much grief as they are now.” He described Adair as someone who greeted colleagues daily with warmth and noted that Adair had received an Emmy Award for his work on a CBS Super Bowl broadcast. Nantz closed his tribute by addressing Adair’s mother, Michelle, directly. CBS Sports reporter Tracy Wolfson also posted a public tribute on X, recalling Adair’s “infectious smile” and their conversations on NFL sidelines.

Adair was from Martinez, Georgia, and had studied communications at Valdosta State University. According to a GoFundMe established for his family, he had been working at Muirfield Village Golf Club as part of the production crew when the accident occurred. A CBS obituary credited him with contributing to live sports production operations across major events and maintaining high broadcast standards throughout his tenure with the network.

The Memorial Tournament continued through the weekend. No official statement on any changes to production arrangements or crew support measures had been published at the time of the broadcast.
