Chelsea Suspend Fernandez Two Games Over Real Madrid Comments

Chelsea have drawn a line. Enzo Fernandez has been suspended for two matches after publicly hinting at a desire to leave — and the club made clear that line had been crossed.
Manager Liam Rosenior confirmed the punishment on April 3. Fernandez will miss the FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and the Premier League clash with Manchester City on April 12. “A line was crossed in terms of our culture and what we want to build,” Rosenior said.
What triggered it: Fernandez said he would “like to live in Spain,” drawing comparisons between Madrid and Buenos Aires. Real Madrid are known admirers. Chelsea are not interested in accommodating the conversation.
But the door isn’t completely shut. “The door is not closed on Enzo, that’s very important,” Rosenior added.
Caicedo, the other midfielder linked with Madrid, took the opposite approach. “I want to be a legend there, God willing,” he said of Chelsea.
Two players. Same rumours. Very different responses — and very different consequences.
