Eagles Facing Backfield Crisis After Barkley Hamstring Injury

Saquon Barkley is considered week-to-week with a hamstring injury that is not believed to be long-term, according to NFL Network. The Philadelphia Eagles running back was hurt during Sunday’s 24-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams and did not return to the game.

Head coach Nick Sirianni declined Monday to say whether Barkley will be available Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, offering only that “I know he’ll do everything he can do to get himself back.” Barkley finished the game with two carries for eight yards after totaling 174 yards on 34 carries through the first three games of the season.

The injury situation compounds Philadelphia’s depth problems at running back. Backup Tank Bigsby is reportedly headed to injured reserve after sustaining an injury late in the game that requires core muscle surgery, a procedure set to take place at the Philadelphia-based Vincera Institute, with hopes he returns within six weeks, per NFL Network. That leaves Will Shipley as the only healthy running back on the active roster, with Dameon Pierce, Carson Steele and Jaydon Blue currently on the practice squad.

Philadelphia is also managing injuries along the offensive line. Left guard Cam Jurgens entered the concussion protocol after self-reporting symptoms Monday morning, according to NFL Network. Jurgens had shifted from center to left guard to replace Landon Dickerson, who remains on injured reserve with a knee injury, leaving the Eagles’ availability picture unsettled ahead of their trip to London.
