F1 Miami GP Under Weather Threat — Race Could Be Cancelled

The Miami Grand Prix has a problem, and it’s coming from the sky.

Forecasts for race weekend show a 70% chance of rain at the start, with Sunday — race day — carrying the most serious threat. The concern isn’t just wet track conditions. It’s the FIA helicopter rule.

Since Jules Bianchi’s fatal accident at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix, regulations require a medical helicopter to be airborne-ready at all times during sessions. If rainfall intensity makes safe helicopter operations impossible, the FIA can cancel or suspend a session entirely. Practice and qualifying could also be affected before Sunday.

Conditions are expected to be more settled on Friday and Saturday — but Sunday is the question mark. If the storms hit as predicted, Miami 2026 could become one of the most disrupted race weekends in recent F1 history.
