Foxborough Demands $8m Security for World Cup

Foxborough officials have refused to issue a 2026 FIFA World Cup host license for Gillette Stadium unless owner Robert Kraft guarantees up to $8 million in security costs, town leaders confirmed this week in Massachusetts. The dispute centers on who will cover policing and public safety expenses during the tournament.

Town representatives insist taxpayers cannot shoulder the burden. “We cannot put residents at financial risk,” a local official said. Kraft’s organization responded that it has already committed significant resources, calling the talks “ongoing and constructive.”

Gillette Stadium is scheduled to host multiple World Cup matches in 2026, part of the expanded 48-team tournament across North America. “We remain confident a solution will be reached,” a stadium spokesperson added as negotiations continue.
