Hodgkinson silences critics after record 800m start

British middle-distance star Keely Hodgkinson has brushed aside recent concerns about weight gain after opening her season with a record-breaking 800m performance.
The Olympic silver medallist delivered an impressive early-season run, setting a new mark and reminding critics of her dominance in the two-lap event. Some observers had questioned her condition during the off-season, but Hodgkinson’s performance quickly shifted the narrative.
“It’s been a strong start and I’m happy with where I am,” Hodgkinson said. “The focus is always on improving and running fast.”
Her coach also backed the athlete’s preparation. “Keely is in great shape and the results speak for themselves,” he noted. “People sometimes judge too quickly.”
The 22-year-old is now targeting a consistent season as she builds momentum ahead of major international competitions.
