Infantino: Iran will be allowed to play World Cup

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said Iran will be able to compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States after receiving assurances from former US president Donald Trump.
Speaking this week, Infantino confirmed that political tensions would not prevent Iran from participating if the team qualifies for the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. “The teams that qualify must be able to play,” Infantino said.
He added that FIFA received guarantees that players, officials and supporters would be allowed to enter the country for the competition.
“We had positive discussions and the assurance that all teams will be welcomed,” Infantino noted.
Iran have been regular participants at recent World Cups, and the confirmation removes uncertainty over their potential participation in matches scheduled in the United States during the 2026 tournament.
