IPC keeps Russia out of Milan 2026 Paralympics

The International Paralympic Committee has confirmed that Russian and Belarusian athletes will remain banned from the Milan-Cortina 2026 Paralympics, extending sanctions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine. The decision was upheld this week following internal discussions.
IPC officials said the move protects the integrity of the Games. “Our priority is the safety and unity of the Paralympic Movement,” a spokesperson stated.
Ukrainian representatives backed the ruling, calling it “a fair decision in the current circumstances,” while Russian officials argued that “sport should remain outside politics.”
The outcome means Milan-Cortina 2026 will go ahead without Russian participation unless the geopolitical situation changes.
