Iran push to move World Cup games from US

Iran are in talks with FIFA to shift their 2026 World Cup matches from the United States to Mexico over safety and travel concerns ahead of the tournament.

The request comes amid geopolitical tensions, with fixtures initially set for US venues. “We are negotiating with FIFA to ensure our team’s safety,” said federation chief Mehdi Taj.

Iranian officials also cited visa and logistical issues, stressing the need for secure conditions. “We want our players to compete without risk,” an official added.

FIFA has not approved any changes, and altering match venues remains unlikely at this stage
