Martinez Back in Man United Training as Carrick Eyes Leeds Return for Defender

Two months out. Five missed games. Now Lisandro Martinez is back on the training pitch — and Manchester United could not have timed it better.

The Argentine centre-back returned to full first-team training on April 7 during the club’s four-day camp in Dublin, the latest step in his recovery from a calf injury sustained after the 1-1 draw with West Ham on February 1. He hasn’t played since. Patrick Dorgu, also working his way back from injury, travelled with the squad too.

Manager Michael Carrick has kept his updates cautious. No return date confirmed publicly. But the Leeds game on April 14 is the target — and the fact that Martinez is back training fully alongside the first team suggests the timeline is real.

United sit third in the Premier League. Champions League qualification is still very much on the line with seven games left. Losing Martinez for two months — a player who anchors the backline — was a hit they absorbed without making excuses.

Getting him back healthy, and getting him fit again before the season’s final push, matters enormously. Dublin isn’t a holiday. It’s preparation. And Martinez being part of it says everything about where his fitness is heading.
