Mazzel wins Super-G gold for Italy at Milano Cortina

Italy’s Chiara Mazzel claimed gold in the women’s visually impaired Super-G at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympics on Monday, racing with guide Nicola Cotti to deliver the host nation’s second title of the Games.
The 29-year-old added the victory to the silver medal she secured in the downhill earlier in the week, strengthening Italy’s strong start on home snow after Emanuel Perathoner won snowboard cross gold on Sunday.
Mazzel revealed the triumph almost did not happen after she struggled before the race. “This gold medal feels even heavier than the silver from the downhill,” she said after the finish.
“I’m really happy with the race, especially because during the course inspection this morning I had a terrible headache and nearly didn’t start,” Mazzel added. “I couldn’t keep my balance, so I’m proud of how I managed the situation.”
Italy also celebrated another Alpine podium earlier in the weekend when Giacomo Bertagnolli and guide Andrea Ravelli secured bronze in the men’s visually impaired downhill.
