Murphy Wins Crucible Classic With “Best Break of My Life” — Then Turns on Heckler

Shaun Murphy was about to go home. Then he made the best break of his Crucible career.
Murphy trailed Fan Zhengyi in the deciding frame of their first-round match at the 2026 World Snooker Championship. It looked done. Then Fan missed. Murphy stepped in and cleared the balls. Final score: 10-9.
“A couple of miracle shots later and somehow I’m in the next round,” Murphy said. On that pressure clearance: “It’s the best break I’ve ever made at the Crucible considering the situation.”
But the drama didn’t stop there. After the first session, Murphy went public with his frustration at a fan who spoke out during his shot. “It’s probably best not to say negative comments out loud,” he posted. He stopped short of naming what was said — but made his feelings clear.
Murphy now faces Xiao Guodong in round two.
