NBA Opens Inquiry Into Fans Who Taunted Brunson at Finals Game 1

The NBA is investigating two courtside fans who allegedly directed profane remarks at New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson during Game 1 of the NBA Finals at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on June 3, 2026. The taunts, which accused Brunson of flopping, began with approximately 20 seconds remaining in the game, according to NBA reporter Chris Haynes.

Brunson, 29, approached referee Scott Foster at the conclusion of the game to alert him to the remarks, and Foster, who had been within earshot of the fans, was already aware of what had been said. ABC’s broadcast showed Foster stepping between Brunson and the stands while Knicks guard Jose Alvarado pulled Brunson away from the scorer’s table. Earlier in the fourth quarter, Brunson had been seen pointing toward the same fans after converting a basket.

The incident unfolded as the Knicks secured a 105-95 road victory to take a 1-0 series lead. Brunson finished with 30 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter on 5-of-9 shooting, despite shooting 12-of-31 from the field and 2-of-9 from three-point range overall. He added three rebounds and two assists.

Game 2 of the NBA Finals is scheduled for Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET, again at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
