Players Demand Breaks in Packed Tennis Calendar

Top tennis players have urged governing bodies to introduce mandatory breaks in the increasingly crowded global calendar, warning that the relentless schedule is pushing athletes to physical and mental limits.
With tournaments spanning nearly the entire year across continents, players say recovery time has shrunk despite rising match intensity. “There’s no time to breathe,” one leading player said. “We need proper rest to perform at our best.”
Another added, “The season feels never-ending, and injuries are becoming more common.”
A former coach noted that extended travel and short turnarounds are “unsustainable at elite level.”
As discussions continue between the ATP, WTA and tournament organizers, players are pressing for structured off-periods to protect careers and maintain the sport’s quality.
