Shiffrin Claims Record-Tying Sixth Alpine World Cup Crown

American skiing legend Mikaela Shiffrin won her sixth career World Cup overall title on Wednesday in Hafjell, Norway, tying Austrian icon Annemarie Moser-Pröll’s all-time record set in the 1970s.

Shiffrin finished 11th in the final race of a gruelling 37-event season. It was enough. She ended 87 points clear of German rival Emma Aicher, who pushed her all the way to the last gate.

“It’s quite emotional,” Shiffrin said after the result came through. When told it was confirmed, she dropped to her knees and asked her team: “Are you sure?”

She now stands alongside Moser-Pröll, who won five straight overall titles from 1971-75 before adding a sixth in 1979. Shiffrin’s six came in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2026 — a comeback story as much as a record chase.

“This is just a symbol of the work that my team is putting in,” she said.

The season was already extraordinary. She won nine of 10 slalom races, claimed Olympic gold in February and now holds 110 World Cup victories — the most ever by any skier, male or female.
