Sinner and Swiatek cruise into Australian Open quarterfinals

Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek powered into the Australian Open quarterfinals on January 26 in Melbourne, underlining their title credentials with convincing straight-sets victories. World No.1 Sinner eased past Luciano Darderi in three sets on Rod Laver Arena, while Swiatek dismantled local hope Maddison Inglis to continue her dominant run at the tournament.

Sinner needed just under two hours to close out the match, firing 32 winners and facing only one break point. “I felt in control from the start and kept my focus,” the Italian said after the win. Darderi admitted the gap was clear, noting that “against a player like Jannik, any dip is punished immediately.”

Earlier, Swiatek dropped only five games, extending her streak of one-sided wins in Melbourne. “I’m playing with confidence and clarity,” the Pole said, adding that the conditions suit her aggressive style. Former champion Jim Courier praised her form, saying on broadcast that “she looks a level above the rest right now.”

The tournament continues later today with Ben Shelton and Casper Ruud also chasing places in the last eight.
