Sinner Beats Alcaraz to Win Monte Carlo and Reclaim World No. 1 Ranking

Jannik Sinner is back on top. The Italian beat Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(5), 6-3 in windy conditions at the Monte Carlo Masters on Sunday to claim his first clay-court ATP Masters 1000 title — and in doing so, reclaimed the world number one ranking he had lost to his great rival.
It was winner-takes-all. Whoever won the final took the top spot. Sinner took it in straight sets.
The Italian begins Monday with a 110-point lead over Alcaraz, returning to number one for the first time since November 2025. He has now won three titles in 2026, more than any player on tour.
But the battle is far from over. Alcaraz has 3,330 ranking points to defend on clay this season compared to Sinner’s 1,950. The chase resumes at Roland Garros.
