“The NFL Should Sign Him” — Trump Jokes About Shooter’s Speed After Correspondents’ Dinner Attack

A gunman stormed the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Donald Trump came away oddly impressed.

Cole Allen, a California teacher, burst through a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton on Saturday night armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and knives. Law enforcement exchanged fire and he was taken down. Trump was evacuated from the ballroom amid the chaos.

When viewing the security footage afterwards, the president’s reaction raised eyebrows everywhere. “I think the NFL should sign him up,” Trump said. “He was almost like a blur.”

He added that he “wasn’t worried” during the incident and called himself “a big fan of law enforcement.” The comment lit up social media — some finding dark humour in it, others not at all. Either way, it was a very Trump response to a very serious situation.
