Tkachuk “Checked Out” in Ottawa? Senators Captain’s Future Suddenly in Doubt

Brady Tkachuk just had his worst playoff series in years. And now the trade whispers are getting loud.

The Ottawa Senators were swept out of the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes. Tkachuk went scoreless across all four games, finished minus-4, and his own coach Travis Green called his play “average” after Game 3. NHL insider Frank Seravalli didn’t mince words on The Big Show: “I can’t help but feel like he’s been a little bit checked out in Ottawa — and I don’t know if that’s post-Olympics or what.”

Insider David Pagnotta went further. “There will be trade discussions this summer,” he said. “I’d be a little bit surprised if he’s a Sen next season.”

The catch: Tkachuk has two years left on his $57.56 million deal and holds a full no-move clause. He controls any destination. Nothing happens without him saying yes.

A franchise captain. A first-round sweep. A summer of uncomfortable conversations ahead.
