Trump plans sweeping order targeting college NIL rules

US President Donald Trump said he will issue a sweeping executive order within a week aimed at reshaping college athletics, following a roundtable discussion with top sports leaders about growing concerns in the NCAA system.
The meeting included NCAA president Charlie Baker, former coaches Nick Saban and Urban Meyer, and several conference commissioners. Trump said the order would address major issues in college sports, though he expects legal battles.
“I will have an executive order within one week, and it will be very all-encompassing,” Trump said. “We’re going to put it forward, and we will get sued, that’s for sure.”
Reports suggest the move could target the current Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) system that allows athletes to earn money through endorsements. According to Yahoo Sports journalist Ross Dellenger, Trump favors returning to the pre-NIL model.
If implemented, the order could dramatically reshape college sports finances, potentially limiting the earnings that many athletes have secured through NIL deals in recent years.
