Ulaanbaatar to host 2026 Asian Taekwondo Championships

Ulaanbaatar will host the 27th Asian Taekwondo Championships on May 19–25, 2026, marking the first time Mongolia stages the continental tournament under the auspices of President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa. Around 1,100 athletes and officials from 45 countries are expected to compete at M Bank Arena in poomsae, kyorugi and para taekwondo.

The event will also serve as a qualification pathway for the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, with the top seven athletes in each weight category earning spots for the September tournament.

“We expect many of Asia’s top fighters in Ulaanbaatar because qualification for the Asian Games is at stake,” said Mongolian Taekwondo Association secretary-general Erdenebaatar Naranchimeg. “Our athletes have been preparing in centralized training camps since January.”

World Taekwondo president Choue Chung-won is expected to attend the event, which will also feature special taekwondo demonstrations. Mongolian athletes have won 23 medals in previous Asian championships.
