USA blocks Venezuela from Winter Olympics vote

The United States has backed an IOC decision preventing Venezuela from taking part in key votes linked to future Winter Olympics decisions. The move was confirmed this week amid concerns over governance and compliance within Venezuela’s Olympic body.
IOC officials said Venezuela failed to meet required standards, prompting its suspension from voting rights. “Rules apply equally to all members,” an IOC source said, stressing the decision was procedural, not political.
US Olympic representatives supported the ruling, calling it necessary to protect the integrity of the Olympic movement. A sports governance expert noted the step sends “a strong message about accountability.”
Venezuela can regain full rights once conditions set by the IOC are met, but for now remains sidelined from major Winter Games decisions.
