USMNT captain Tyler Adams previews 2026 World Cup home campaign

Tyler Adams, captain of the United States men’s national soccer team (USMNT) and midfielder for AFC Bournemouth, spoke to Fox News Digital ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States will co-host with Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.[1][2][5]

The USMNT will open its Group D campaign on June 12, 2026, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, followed by group stage matches on June 19 at Lumen Field in Seattle and June 25 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.[1][2]

Adams participated in his first World Cup in 2022 in Qatar, where the USMNT advanced from Group B before a 3-1 extra-time defeat to the Netherlands in the round of 16 on December 3 at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.[3][4]

“I think when we’re pulling up to a game, and you see the Stars and Stripes and the red, white and blue – just gets you in that patriotic mood,” Adams said. “That’s the honor of representing the country. Everyone really comes together… I can’t wait for our fans to turn up.”[5]

Reflecting on preparation, Adams advised teammates to focus on the present: “You don’t want to get too ahead of yourself… It’s game by game, moment by moment, pass by pass where you can have an impact… focusing on the details of every single game, but taking it one game at a time.”[5]

Adams also highlighted his partnership with Scotts Miracle-Gro on the “Keep It Real” initiative, which promotes natural grass fields for safer play and expands youth sports access via Every Kid Sports. The program has funded over $432,000 to support more than 2,000 children across 48 states, including restoration of a field in Adams’ hometown of Wappingers Falls, New York.[5][6]

“When they came to me with this idea… I am giving back to my community with the partnership where we did a field day last summer and we’re restoring the field I played on as a kid,” Adams said.[5]
