Xabi Alonso exits Real Madrid role after talks

Xabi Alonso has officially left his position as Real Madrid head coach, the club announced on Monday, following internal discussions over the team’s future. The decision comes at a crucial stage of the season, with Madrid still competing on multiple fronts.

Alonso’s departure ends a brief but intense spell at the Santiago Bernabéu, where results were solid but expectations remained sky-high. “Coaching Real Madrid is something special,” Alonso said. “I gave everything, but timing matters in football.”

Real Madrid thanked the former midfielder for his contribution, stating: “Xabi embodies the club’s values and professionalism. We are grateful for his commitment.” A senior club source added: “This was not an easy decision, but we believe it is the right moment.”

Alonso, a former Champions League winner with Madrid, insisted he leaves with pride. “I’m proud of the work done by the players and staff,” he said.

The club is expected to name an interim coach shortly as preparations continue for upcoming domestic and European fixtures.
